Shackadodo

Haa. Did my last long run before the marathon today.
So effectively, today was trial run at ECP.

Woke up normally, not at 3am.. (Will try to practise that time sometime this week)
Sent wifey to work and then it head straight down to ECP. Ate and tried my Banana flavoured Powerbar, kinda gooey and sticky but whattheheck, it still taste like food, Thanx wiofey for unwrapping for me while I was driving.. must have got your fingers all sticky.

Started off at the current end of ECP, which is the Fort Road junction at 830am and decided that this would be the best opportunity to know how it is to run under the sweltering heat.

I told myself, please stop at every toilet to splash some water and take a sip. You wun slow down by too much but that will ensure I dun get whack by potential heat injuries. (Army doctrine still there)

The run was a breeze all the way even till past bedok jetty. Then i kinda of remembered how far it seems last time when I was in VJC to run to the Bedok jetty. Along the way there, I saw Jaclyn (Not sure if she remembers me.. she is teaching at VJC now, with a bunch of VJ students doing their run along ECP).... Bedok Jetty dun seem far at all now... The heat started to get to me when I reached OBS (East Coast).... by then, I was looking out for the turnaround point...

Shit happens as usual, I was supposed to gobble up my Chocolate Power Gel at the turnaround point, but then!!!.. No toilet in sight!!.. Where to find water to wash that gooey thing down?
Thank you uncle security guard at National Sailing Centre for lending me your toilet.
You are a life-saver. Seriously.

The online sharing from other runner was right on. The power gel was extremely stick and tasted just like chocolate gel to me.. I was also aware that there was 25mg of caffeine in there and was very curious how my body would react to the enrgy boost.

Turning back, it was woohoohoo... the caffeine hit. I picked up the pace and made it all the way to the jetty at an increased pace. Then I think the caffeine wore out......dammmnnnnn

From there on.. it was really a torture, Being careful not to push myself as this was just a dry run for the actual thing, Again, deliberate breaks every 1-2km or so at toilets just to hydrate.

Still, thighs getting heavy, left knee starting to get numb. ( I need to friggin lose weight!!!) My knee really cannot support 85kgs.. I am very sure of this...

Then again, readings saved me... "Maintain good running form and posture"
I stopped dragging my feet and started to run tall. That kept me alive till past Macs...

I really had to stop and walk for awhile before picking up the jog again,.. trudging gently, I made my way slowly back to Area B, combining walk and jog and run and whatever I needed to do to move.

I MADE IT BACK....

Extremely dehydrated still, I guzzled 1.2L of 100Plus, 500ml of water and still feeling thristy as I am writing this. Better hydrate myself somemore.

To end this blog off. My Deepest Condolences to the family of Hwei Yen.
Guys, Not sure if you rem her. She used to join in the netball training that Mrs Chan held for the girls. From 97 Arts.. In fact I think she was in my junior class.
